grading of friends

last nite, i went out for drinks with hubby and my brother, after putting the little one to bed. mom is there to keep watch so we kinda sneaked out awhile.

we were in a conversation about colleagues, gang of friends and types of characters in some movies. there are some friends whom you should never be afront them. if she has 10 pairs of ear rings, you do not tell her you have 11 pairs. if she has 20 rings, do not let her know you have 21. and if your company gives you really good bonuses, do not compare with hers as it will only upset her. and as friends, we do not want to do that. there is this type whom a friend she is, but can only be good friends if we are slightly behind them. this we called the 'small eyes friends', literally translated from mandarin. but i do not mind. each and every individual is different, and has their unique charateristics. i truly accept a friend despite their 'differences'. i have friends like that - plentiful. but nevertheless, i love them the same. because anyhow, they do not mean any harm. they want goodness to happen to us, but just never better than them :)

then there is this type of friend, very rarely found, but one who would wish only the very best for you. she is the first to be happy when she hears some good news of you. she is the first to feel comforted you have some great news upcoming. very sincerely, she wants everything nice to happen to not only to you, but your family too. yes, an extremely rare species but there is one i know. i told my hubby and my brother too, i have only one of these. she has a special place in my heart, ever since and forever. although she is very very far away from me, and we meet like once a year, she is the dearest friend i've even known. i'm also very glad that we actually become mummy in the same year :)

then there is this category of friends whom are just err..friends because we are colleagues. apart from work, we can hang out together, chit chat and join a party. but we merely established the friendship from work. we can chat a little bit more about our personal lives but nothing too condensed. just a normal friendship.

of course, there is this 'old friends' whom we've known ever since like primary school. no, not just old friends whom we met during primary school, and then moved on with our lives separately and then meet up again during one of those reunion dinners. no. not that type. i meant the type like i have; a bunch of us whom we have known for 24 years! and have continued being part of our lives for the rest of our lives. i admit that i've kinda lost the special touch that we used to have, especially when i'm so intensely busy with my personal issues, family issues etc. but i constantly marathon to keep in touch with them. with great might i tried to know more about there wherebouts, events, etc. deep inside i love them still, never any lesser. and i know they do the same too. like my favourites saying, "good friends are like stars. you don't see them everyday, but you know there are always there"...
